When you hear “steel siding”, you might not readily think of it as an option for your home, since it is a material you often see in commercial applications. In recent years, however, it has been more commonly used in residential applications as well.
Steel siding now comes in many different colors and textures, making it an aesthetically pleasing choice for your home. Steel is also a good choice due to its excellent durability, needing little maintenance.
You will need to choose either galvanized or stainless steel for your siding. Stainless steel holds up better against corrosion, so it might seem like the better choice, but if there is a pool near the house, you should use galvanized steel instead. The chlorine in pool water will degrade the coating on stainless steel and make it rust. Galvanized steel, on the other hand, is sensitive to salt water, which also means that the salty slush that many areas of the country deal with in the wintertime is very harmful to this type of material.
